GB export procedure January 2022.

Dear customer,

With this post, we want to inform you about the changes the British government has prepared for all imports of EU origin.

In short, the change means that the deferred clearance (maximum of six months after arrival), which was in effect after Brexit, is no longer allowed. From 1 January 2022, goods can only be delivered after full clearance has taken place.

Over the past 12 months, the customs team of our partner in the United Kingdom has contacted all known importers to generate a ‘customs profile’ of your customers in the UK. This includes establishing all company details, contact information and which clearing agent they intend to use for clearances.

While we expect this is generally under control, we still want to emphasise that, if your customers are approached by our partner (Europa) regarding this matter, an adequate response to their requests is essential to ensure your goods progress and are cleared and delivered on time.

What is required?

When clearance is done by our partner Europa, they require your buyers to sign the customs contract document and fill out a credit application form. This allows them to include your customer in their system.

If it is not Europa and your customer in the United Kingdom has a different designated clearing agent, then Europa needs to have the complete details of that company. Contact details such as name, email and phone number of the contact person are required. This way, it’s clear which company to contact and written confirmation can be provided that this company will handle the clearance for your customer.

In such a case, Europa will not perform the clearance. However, they will require proof of clearance from the designated clearing agent before releasing the goods for delivery.

We kindly request you to check with your customers in the United Kingdom whether they are aware of the new situation as of 1 January and if the necessary steps have been taken.

Please note that if shipments stay in the Transit Terminal in the United Kingdom for more than 3 working days, storage costs may apply. This can also delay the final delivery.

The pick-up and documentation procedures in the Netherlands remain unchanged.

Best regards,

BF Global Logistics B.V.
