Maut is not really toll…

Bad news for transport to, from and through Germany, the German government plans to significantly increase the so-called Maut as of December 1, 2023, by no less than 85%. Currently the toll is €0.19 per kilometer for a EURO 6 truck with more than 4 axles (the truck that is almost always used for international traffic).

The German government wants to increase this to €0.348 per kilometer, an increase of almost 85%! The proceeds from this rate increase are intended to be spent on modernizing the railway network in Germany. However, the unions do not accept this, so we will have to wait and see whether this increase will continue.
What is the Maut?
The Maut is a toll that must be paid by carriers on the “Autobahn” and the “Bundes Straßen” in Germany. The toll is paid digitally using toll boxes that the drivers have on board their trucks. There is a lot of resistance to this increase inside and outside Germany.
As your logistics partner, we understand that cost control is essential for business operations. That is why we would like to inform you in a timely manner about the expected impact of this change. We are busy looking at how the increase in tolls will affect our rates. We expect to be able to announce this around November 1. If you would like to know more about the consequences of this increase, please contact our Road Procurement Manager Geerten Brinkman: geerten.brinkman@bfglogistics.com
