Special transport
‘We have an air freight shipment arriving at Schiphol from Japan, can you take care of the transport from Amsterdam to Cordoba for us?’ Not a strange question of course for Mark Swolfs of BF Global Logistics, we go to Cordoba in Spain almost every day. But this was not a 400-kg euro pallet, no it was a 395x170x295 cm (LxWxH) crate weighing almost 5,000 kg. That is not an everyday occurrence even for Mark.
All this had to follow seamlessly to avoid delays and additional costs. The truck then headed for Spain, via the border town of Irun where customs clearance was done by the Spanish customs service. This too had some difficulties, with a half-day delay, the journey of this shipment continued. In Cordoba, a crane also had to be ready to take the crate off the trailer, one that was nothing shy of 5,000 kilos. As the truck also had a load back to the Netherlands, it was vital that everything ran on schedule. Not an easy task in Spain, but with our personal approach and good consultation, we succeeded.
